About the Role
The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a full-time Assistant Research Scientist position for the Area Molecular Imaging and Neuropathology department at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. The chosen candidate will provide research study support for NIMH-funded neurobiologic studies focused on mood disorders and suicide risk. The selected candidate should have interest in working with patients, as well as research and writing research papers.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and conduct initial telephone screening interviews of depressed potential participants
- Manage complex protocols
- Manage documentation for the IRB
- Assist in MRI, EEG and EMA
- Ability to be trained in procedures such as blood-drawing and obtaining electrocardiograms, urine and saliva samples for medical screening and research
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and one year of professional research experience in an appropriate field or 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience
- At least (1-2) years of experience as a coordinator
- At least (1-2) years of experience in Excel, SPSS or other statistical software
- Prior experience working with human subjects preferred
- Phlebotomy after training
- Willingness to perform research blood-draws, urine, and saliva sampling
- Highly organized person to manage detailed information in a research environment
- Strong communication skills
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Comfort with clinical situations
- Fluent in English
- Able to interact with and relate to patients with sensitivity and empathy
- Willingness to work in psychiatric emergency department and inpatient unit settings
- Ability to establish rapport with patients and staff
