About the Role
The Museum of Modern Art is seeking a Curatorial Assistant for the Department of Painting and Sculpture to support senior curators in all curatorial functions, including research, exhibitions, publications, loans, and acquisitions.
Responsibilities
- Assist senior curators with research, planning, organization, and execution of exhibitions.
- Write, edit, and produce Museum publications and exhibition materials.
- Research and catalog the Museum collection and archives related to exhibition projects.
- Provide exhibition support, including bibliographic research, loan correspondence, and website development.
- Assist in maintaining the collection and loans, coordinating with registration, conservation, and preparation teams.
- Liaise with external parties and internal Museum departments.
- Support research and preparation for potential acquisitions.
- Stay informed about current art activities and make recommendations to senior staff.
- Conduct daily inspections of artworks on view and address any issues.
- Respond to visitor inquiries and conduct gallery tours.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Master's degree or PhD in art history with expertise in modern and contemporary art.
- Specialized knowledge of 20th-century and contemporary Latinx and Latin American art is preferred.
- One to two years of experience in a museum or supporting loan exhibitions and publications.
- Superior research, writing, and editing skills.
- Professional-level proficiency in Spanish.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with The Museum System (TMS) is helpful.
- On-site presence required for the first 90 days, followed by a hybrid schedule with potential for full-time onsite work.
