About the Role
Element has an opportunity for a Senior Test Technician to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Senior Test Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision. The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Performs mechanical testing, primarily of metallic materials (Tension, compression, bending, shear, impact, hardness).
- Interprets specifications and client requirements.
- Operates complex mechanical testing equipment.
- Maintains accurate and systematic records.
- Performs other duties to fulfil the demands of the laboratory.
- Performs general duties in accordance with Element's internal procedures, Quality as well as Health and Safety system.
- Applies instrumentation and sets up complex data capture equipment.
- Writes reports, interprets data, and performs analysis.
- Communicates internally and externally.
- Manages work flow and timelines to meet due dates.
- Performs lower to intermediate complex testing.
- Works alone the majority of the work day; only requiring assistance for clarification or confirmation of test procedures.
- Effectively manages time and practices accountability for the testing to be performed.
- Takes testing projects from start to finish, completing each step properly.
- Holds team members accountable for testing requirements.
- Reads and understands customer specifications and performs testing in accordance with them.
- Constructs and maintains test fixtures and other laboratory equipment to ensure proper working order based on client needs.
- Maintains and repairs equipment.
- Ensures timely and accurate results with little supervision and technical input.
Requirements
- Educated to a good general standard including English and Math.
- Hands-on job sometimes involving safely lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
- Experience of working within a mechanical testing environment is advantageous.
- An understanding of a recognized Quality Management Systems such as ISO 17025 is beneficial.
- Working knowledge of ASTM, ISO, or equivalent mechanical testing standards.
- Self-motivated Test Technician with the ability to multi-task, organize and work under the pressure of a busy commercial mechanical test laboratory.
