About the Role
Provide comprehensive commercial real estate due diligence, conveyancing, acquisition and disposition transactional support, and risk management advice for the Government’s General Real Estate Portfolio, Forfeited Corporate Properties, and Development initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and support on complex legal matters in commercial real estate, land assembly, planning, property development, and related transactions.
- Advise on the application of the MOI Act, OILC Act, and relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Review file documents, consider external advice, develop strategies, and obtain required approvals.
- Ensure corporate compliance with legislation and Infrastructure Ontario policies and procedures.
- Contribute to strategy development.
- Provide legal support to internal stakeholders.
- Provide litigation support to business units.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience practicing law in commercial real estate, with a focus on dispositions, acquisitions, planning, and development related to master-planned communities.
- Demonstrated experience conducting title reviews and preparing title reports.
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Knowledge of commercial real estate, land development, property, and land management.
- Proven strategic and innovative thinking.
- Demonstrated experience drafting, negotiating, and executing land use, land assembly, commercial agreements, complex commercial real estate transactions, and related development matters.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation pertinent to Infrastructure Ontario's business.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly to non-legal audiences.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Ability to understand business issues quickly and exercise good judgment.
- Ability to provide timely and practical legal advice.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
