About the Role

As part of the Youth Services Department, this role promotes growth, leadership, and positive self-image in young people. The Group Leader will foster a safe and engaging learning environment, integrating recreational activities, team building, lessons, and trips.

Responsibilities

  • Complete after school trainings as per school-age child care requirements.
  • Problem solve and intervene directly with youth in groups.
  • Maintain adequate staff to camper supervision during all activities and trips.
  • Design and implement project-based school year curriculum.
  • Facilitate group management and activities based on after-school themes.
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers.
  • Follow daily in-house and trip schedules and procedures.
  • Create a camp culture of positive group cohesiveness.
  • Supervise a group of children and participate in activities and trips.
  • Provide and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain adequate supplies in first aid and safety kits.
  • Maintain medical and contact information for each camper.
  • Maintain a daily log of all incidents/injuries.
  • Prepare attendance and other required reports.
  • Adhere to all regulations and procedures outlined in the safety plan.
  • Communicate regularly and appropriately with parents.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Arrive ready to work with a positive attitude.
  • Supervise and evaluate youth staff.
  • Perform other assignments as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Candidates fluent in Spanish are encouraged to apply.
  • Youth development experience required.
  • Experience teaching and designing curricula required.
  • Previous experience working with diverse young people required.
  • High level of proficiency in administrative work.
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience and expertise working with youth (volunteer experience acceptable).
  • Three (3) or more years of experience coaching, instructing, or facilitating curriculum-based lessons (preferably to youth).
  • Ideal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.
  • Must successfully complete NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening.
  • Must successfully complete New York State Clearance Review Background Check.
  • Must successfully complete 3 Reference Checks.
  • Must successfully complete Physical with updated TB Test (fees may apply).
  • If offered the position, must submit $25 fee for NY State Clearance Review.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all students while remaining professional.
  • Must be able to motivate students while setting an example in all areas, including responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance, and professionalism.
