About the Role

Activity Specialists will assist in the day-to-day functioning of the program, ensuring youth are learning and building hard skills, while promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image.

Responsibilities

• Complete 15 hours of training within the first three months of hire and attend two mandatory agency-wide Professional Development trainings.
• Supervise all participants, particularly during special activities.
• Maintain an organized and clean classroom space.
• Maintain a daily log of all incidents/injuries.
• Chaperone youth groups during trips and other field activities.
• Assist with all aspects of programming, including following the organization's mission, supervising youth, and collaborating with staff.
• Perform administrative duties, including follow-up calls to parents.
• Attend all required department/agency meetings and/or training.
• Create lessons and curriculum around specialty.
• Implement and facilitate projects and recreational activities for the school year or summer camp.
• Take initiative to assist program participants and group leaders.
• Maintain program supplies and ensure their proper use.
• Enforce all rules, regulations, and codes of conduct.
• Supervise a group of children and participate in activities and trips, providing and maintaining a safe working environment.
• Maintain adequate supplies in first aid and safety kits.
• Adhere to COVID-19 protocols.
• Maintain medical and emergency contact information for each participant.
• Prepare attendance reports and other required reports.
• Adhere to all regulations and procedures outlined in the safety plan.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required; College Degree Preferred.
• Must have 3+ years of experience working in a specialized field.
• Must have experience working with and devising curricula around specialization.
• Ideal candidate has previous experience with classroom instruction and/or facilitating lessons in specialized fields.
• Candidate must be very responsible, organized, and demonstrate positive communication skills.
• Ideal candidate is personable, energetic, and enthusiastic.
• Candidate must successfully complete NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening, New York State Clearance Review, Background Check, 3 Reference Checks, and a Physical with an updated TB Test.
• Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all students and staff while remaining professional at all times.
• Candidates must be able to motivate students while setting an example in timeliness, attendance, and professionalism.
• If offered the position, must submit a $25 fee for NY State Clearance Review.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed oral or written instructions.
• Ability to relate to officials, staff, and the public in a courteous manner.
• Must submit a resume and cover letter outlining how skills and experience meet qualifications.
• Must provide three professional references upon selection, with at least one from a former supervisor.
