About the Role
WIHD is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse Manager to lead nursing and clinical support operations in our nonprofit outpatient health services programs serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This hands-on leadership role combines staff supervision, clinic operations, direct patient care, care coordination, and quality improvement. The ideal candidate is an organized, compassionate nurse leader committed to person-centered care, patient safety, and an exceptional patient and caregiver experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily clinical operations, patient flow, staffing coordination, and team huddles.
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate Medical Assistants, Licensed Practical Nurses, phlebotomy staff, and other assigned clinical personnel.
- Coordinate onboarding, orientation, training, competency assessments, and ongoing staff development.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and service excellence.
- Prepare patients for visits; assist providers; and administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments within the RN scope of practice.
- Oversee laboratory operations, infection-control practices, equipment logs, medication storage, and clinical supply readiness.
- Ensure timely triage and follow-through for patient and caregiver calls, prescription requests, test results, referrals, and prior authorizations.
- Educate patients, families, caregivers, and agencies regarding treatment plans, recommendations, and self-management strategies.
- Coordinate care and communication with providers, hospitals, pharmacies, payers, guardians, caregivers, and community agencies.
- Respond to on-site medical emergencies and provide stabilization until emergency medical services arrive.
- Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, infection control, patient-centered medical home, and related organizational initiatives.
- Support chronic care management, care transitions, population health, and new programs that improve access, quality, and efficiency.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current, valid New York State Registered Nurse license.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
- At least three years of nursing experience.
- At least two years of nursing supervisory or management experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and direct clinical workflows.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of nursing standards, patient safety, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and electronic health record documentation.
