About the Role

The Primary Counselor is responsible for delivering and implementing long-term supervision, support, and clinical services to chemically dependent adolescents with co-occurring and mental health problems, serving as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides weekly caseload group sessions to assist residents in developing and obtaining goals.
  • Provides bi-weekly individual counseling sessions to assist residents in developing and obtaining goals.
  • Performs initial and ongoing screening of residents and resident property.
  • Documents and charts resident progress using agency forms and tools.
  • Documents, facilitates, and supervises daily group formats.
  • Supervises clients in self-medication.
  • Participates in individual and group supervision.
  • Communicates pertinent information, incidents, and emergencies.
  • Provides crisis interventions and follow-up, including incident reporting.
  • Manages the client population and facilitates the daily house schedule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience with substance abuse disorders.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with adolescents with co-occurring and mental health problems.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in an OASAS funded facility is a plus.
  • Commitment to providing quality services and outcome-driven performance measures.
  • Excellent organizational management skills with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance clinicians, and set and achieve program objectives.
  • Strong networking and public relations skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, populations, and cultures.
  • Action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative approach to program planning.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
