About the Role

The Substation Engineer II - P&C serves as an engineer on electric substation design projects for high-voltage utility systems and renewable energy interconnection projects. This role involves applying NESC, NEC, and other applicable codes and standards in engineering design, producing various diagrams and specifications, and working with stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all aspects of design for high voltage (4kV – 230kV) and EHV (above 230kV) substation projects.
  • Develops one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, potential and current schematics, control schematics, alarm schematics, communications schematics, wiring diagrams, protection and control specifications, I/O mapping, points mapping, and relay settings.
  • Produces documentation for design calculations and construction documentation (Sequence and RFP).
  • Provides technical support, procurement, and construction assistance.
  • Engages in active coordination with other project team members.
  • Works seamlessly with a P&C Designer to develop schematics and associated wiring diagrams.
  • Coordinates efforts with external and internal project team members, identifying needs for coordination with disciplines like transmission line engineers, distribution line engineers, and telecom engineers.
  • Focuses on producing high-quality work and supports continuous improvement.
  • Works in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects.
  • Assists with identifying key client interests and drivers, and may determine key clients.
  • Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate concerns.
  • Serves as a technical specialist for system protection and communication, providing consultation and guidance.
  • Removes impediments obstructing the engineering team's goals.
  • Advises Management on maximizing team ROI.
  • Attends client technical review meetings.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a recognized accredited program.
  • Minimum of 4 years related work experience in the field of high voltage substation design – P&C.
  • EIT Certification.
  • Proficient in use of AutoCAD or Bentley Microstation.
  • Strong familiarity with the NEC and National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Good knowledge of the industry and technology trends specific to substations.
  • Professional engineering license or ability to obtain one within 2 years of hire.
  • Experience in protection device coordination.
  • Knowledge of construction practices and constructability.
  • Experience with proposal writing and project estimating.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling and project controls processes.
  • Superior Verbal & Written Communications.
