About the Role

The Contract Veterinarian will provide production-animal veterinary expertise and herd health support to Armor Animal Health customers throughout New York and Pennsylvania. This role will work closely with producers and Armor Animal Health team members to identify animal health and production challenges, develop practical solutions, and support producers in achieving their herd health, production, and genetic potential goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide production-animal veterinary consultation and herd health support to dairy and beef producers.
  • Conduct on-farm investigations and evaluate animal health and production concerns.
  • Identify health, management, nutrition, environmental, and production-related issues and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Evaluate individual animals and herds and provide recommendations consistent with accepted veterinary practices.
  • Assist producers with herd health planning, disease prevention, treatment protocols, biosecurity, and overall animal health management.
  • Collect and submit appropriate laboratory and diagnostic samples and interpret diagnostic findings.
  • Maintain appropriate veterinary records and documentation.
  • Follow all applicable federal, state, veterinary, animal health, and company requirements.
  • Collaborate with veterinary support staff to track performance metrics, veterinary services and acquire approval for custom vaccines.
  • Educate producers and farm personnel on animal health, disease prevention, treatment protocols, handling procedures, and best management practices.
  • Conduct on-farm training and demonstrations, including procedures such as tubing calves, oral fluid administration, IV catheterization, blood collection, and laboratory sample collection.
  • Provide technical education regarding appropriate animal health products, diagnostics, and services.
  • Participate in producer meetings, educational programs, and customer events as needed.
  • Partner with Armor Animal Health Sales Representatives to provide veterinary and technical support to customers.
  • Participate in regular ride-alongs with Sales Representatives.
  • Support Sales Representatives by providing veterinary expertise during customer visits and discussions.
  • Promote appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, non-prescription products, and services.
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer outcomes and support long-term customer relationships.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with producers, customers, coworkers, management, vendors, and business partners.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
  • Currently licensed and in good standing to practice veterinary medicine in New York and Pennsylvania.
  • Federal Accreditation required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of production-animal veterinary experience.
  • Significant dairy and beef experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of dairy and beef production systems, herd health, animal nutrition, disease prevention, diagnostics, and products used in successful production operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate herd health and production issues and develop practical, producer-focused solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to build effective relationships with producers and industry professionals.
  • Ability to communicate complex veterinary and technical information in a clear and practical manner.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Sales Representatives, veterinary professionals, and other Armor Animal Health team members.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, email, smartphones/tablets, and other technology commonly used in field-based veterinary practice.
  • Ability to travel to customer farms and other business locations as required.
  • Requires a valid drivers license and clean DMV record.
  • This position is intended to be performed as an independent contractor engagement.
  • The Contract Veterinarian will be responsible for maintaining all professional licenses, certifications, insurance, equipment, and other requirements applicable to the independent practice of veterinary medicine, as specified in the applicable independent contractor agreement.
