About the Role

Flex is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to join their team in Austin, Texas. This role is responsible for supplier development, working with suppliers to improve performance, implement process controls, and develop quality assurance plans.

Responsibilities

  • Select suitable suppliers based on quality, capability, pricing, delivery, environment, and social regulations.
  • Implement new supplier qualification processes, including capability matching, risk assessment, self-assessment, and onsite audits.
  • Provide value-added engineering proposals to optimize supplier manufacturing processes or products.
  • Implement Material Qualification (PPAP/FAI), including various quality and control documents.
  • Track new qualified parts' quality performance during the pilot run phase and drive corrective actions.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert for supplier quality hot issues and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with annual maintenance audits for existing suppliers.
  • Help suppliers improve manufacturing processes and product quality through continuous improvement programs.
  • Manage ECO/ECN/SCR implementation, ensuring PPAP/FAI requirements are met before production.
  • Work with suppliers to improve quality components of goods and services by understanding manufacturing processes and applications.
  • Perform quality audits on suppliers to ensure compliance with ISO and regulatory standards.
  • Build strong relationships with purchasing engineers and the supplier system.
  • Provide cross-functional support for supplier selection, approval, and development.
  • Ensure supplier selection, development, approval, and rejection align with SJM vendor guidelines.
  • Assess the effectiveness of supplier process control plans, measures, and activities.
  • Utilize statistical techniques for process improvement research.
  • Develop and guide the execution of process validations and tests, documenting results.
  • Guide supplier process capability studies.
  • Construct Design of Experiments to characterize supplier processes and identify root causes.
  • Develop and implement procedures for new and improved supplier processes.
  • Provide engineering support to Receiving Inspection, including statistical research and measurement system analysis.
  • Participate in Material Review Board resolutions for supplier-provided parts and services.
  • Participate in supplier Quality System Improvement Plans.
  • Guide the Supplier Requests for Change process.
  • Perform supplier Quality System audits.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions with suppliers.
  • Research non-conformances and supplier performance for key indicators.
  • Monitor dock-to-stock processes and perform part selection.
  • Provide guidance to project teams for supplied component and supplier qualifications.
  • Guide teams in identifying risks related to new product designs, processes, suppliers, and applications.
  • Operate job-related equipment skillfully and safely.
  • Rate and track supplier performance, driving continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain supplier management processes and tools.

Requirements

  • Experience on AS9100.
  • Experience in problem-solving with quality tools such as: 8D, 5Whys, Ishikawa (fishbone), etc.
  • Knowledge of a company's manufacturing process, applications, and process development.
  • Ability to form good relationships with the purchasing engineer and the supplier system.
  • Ability to provide cross-functional help to select, approve, and develop suppliers.
  • Ability to ensure supplier selection, development, approval, and rejection according to SJM vendor guidelines and requirements.
  • Ability to drive full assessment for effectiveness of supplier process control plans, measures, and activities.
  • Ability to use statistical techniques and professional judgment to research data for process improvement.
  • Ability to develop and guide execution of process validations and tests; explore resulting data and document results.
  • Ability to guide supplier process capability studies.
  • Ability to construct Design of Experiments to characterize supplier processes and/or sets on root cause.
  • Ability to develop and implement procedures for new and/or improved supplier processes.
  • Ability to provide engineering help to Receiving Inspection including statistical research, measurement systems exploring, Gage R&R studies and inspection procedures.
  • Ability to participate in Material Review Board resolutions on supplier provided parts and services.
  • Ability to participate in supplier Quality System Improvement Plans.
  • Ability to guide the Supplier Requests for Change process.
  • Ability to perform supplier Quality System audits.
  • Ability to perform corrective and preventive actions with suppliers.
  • Ability to perform researches of non-conformances and supplier performance for key performance indicators.
  • Ability to perform dock-to-stock monitoring and part selection activities.
  • Ability to provide guidance to project teams for supplied component and supplier qualifications.
  • Ability to guide teams in identification of risks/hazards relative to new product designs, processes, suppliers and applications.
  • Skillful and safe operation of job-related equipment.
  • Ability to rate and track supplier’s performance and drive supplier continuous improvement.
  • Ability to establish and maintain supplier management processes and tools.
