Responsibilities

  • Lead data risk identification and assessment, evaluating risks from data quality, lineage, privacy, misuse, reporting inaccuracies, weak governance, or ineffective controls.
  • Define inherent and residual risk positions and recommend appropriate treatment actions.
  • Own and oversee the data risk and control framework, defining control objectives, minimum requirements, evidence standards, and risk-to-control mappings.
  • Ensure alignment with HSBC policy, standards, and non-financial risk frameworks.
  • Provide oversight of control monitoring, challenging the sufficiency of KRIs, KPIs, and other mechanisms.
  • Review breaches, trends, and emerging themes requiring escalation or remediation.
  • Lead risk and control governance and escalation forums for material data risk topics.
  • Maintain decision logs, action tracking, and escalation records.
  • Support and oversee control testing and assurance outcomes, reviewing plans, findings, and thematic issues.
  • Ensure actions from testing and assurance are tracked to closure.
  • Produce and/or lead risk and control reporting and governance packs using Helios / NFR and related management information.
  • Highlight material themes, overdue actions, control weaknesses, breaches, and emerging risks for senior governance forums.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in data risk, non-financial risk, operational risk, controls management, data governance, or related disciplines within financial services.
  • Sound understanding of data management concepts including data governance, data quality, metadata, lineage, critical data elements, stewardship, data retention, and data security.
  • Experience in risk assessment, control design, control monitoring, issue management, governance, and escalation within a regulated environment.
  • Good knowledge of risk management frameworks, policy and standards development, and the practical application of control requirements across business and technology processes.
  • Experience supporting audit, regulatory reviews, and assurance activity, including preparation of risk and control narratives and evidence coordination.
