About the Role
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and support of electrical and electronic systems used in medical devices. You will contribute to new product development and sustaining engineering projects while ensuring compliance with applicable quality systems, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. This position provides an opportunity to develop technical depth and project leadership skills while contributing to the delivery of safe, effective, and innovative medical technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop analog, digital, mixed-signal, and power electronic circuits for medical devices.
- Create and/or update electrical schematics, component specifications, and design documentation.
- Participate in system architecture discussions and technical design reviews.
- Conduct circuit analysis, simulation, prototyping, and design optimization activities.
- Evaluate and select electronic components based on performance, reliability, cost, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and execute engineering test plans and protocols.
- Perform electrical design verification testing and support system verification activities.
- Analyze test results, identify root causes of failures, and implement corrective actions.
- Support product reliability, safety, and performance evaluations.
- Develop products in accordance with applicable medical device regulations and quality system requirements.
- Support risk management activities including design FMEA and hazard analysis.
- Assist with compliance efforts related to EMC requirements and other relevant electrical and medical device standards.
- Contribute to design history files, technical reports, and regulatory submissions.
- Work closely with systems, software, mechanical, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, and clinical teams.
- Support transfer of products from development to manufacturing.
- Investigate field issues and support sustaining engineering activities.
- Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers on technical issues.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Support design reviews and implementation of engineering best practices.
- Share technical knowledge with peers and junior engineers.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of electrical engineering experience, preferably within a regulated industry.
- Experience designing and testing electronic circuits and systems.
- Proficiency with electrical design tools and schematic capture software.
- Hands-on experience using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, digital multimeters, and logic analyzers.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience developing medical devices or other regulated products.
- Familiarity with IEC 60601 electrical safety requirements.
- Experience with EMC/EMI testing and mitigation techniques.
- Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller-based designs.
- Familiarity with design controls and product development processes under FDA and international regulatory frameworks.
- Experience supporting manufacturing and product commercialization activities.
