About the Role
The Major Gifts Officer serves as the lead fundraising strategist and major gifts officer for Blue Star Families within the California region, responsible for cultivating high-net-worth individuals, corporate leaders, family foundations, and institutional partners.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects with a focus on gifts of $25,000 and above.
- Identify and cultivate major and principal gift prospects within the California market.
- Build and implement a regional fundraising strategy aligned with enterprise revenue goals.
- Engage technology-sector leaders, corporate partners, and family foundations.
- Leverage regional events and engagement opportunities as cultivation and pipeline-building platforms.
- Partner with Development leadership to align California fundraising efforts with capital, annual, and national campaigns.
- Track portfolio activity, pipeline progression, and revenue forecasting using CRM systems.
- Represent Blue Star Families at regional philanthropic, corporate, and civic gatherings.
- Travel regularly within the region and nationally as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 7–10+ years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience.
- Demonstrated success securing major gifts of $25,000+ and principal gifts.
- Strong understanding of Northern California’s philanthropic and corporate landscape.
- Experience engaging high-net-worth individuals, technology leaders, and family foundations.
- Ability to operate independently in a regional leadership role.
- Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred).
- Ability to travel regionally on a regular basis.
- Ability to travel overnight several times per year for organizational gatherings and donor engagement.
- May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary to carry out key job functions.
- Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 30 lbs.
