About the Role

The Area Director is responsible for developing and implementing an annual area plan by overseeing local office operations, securing funding, managing programs, leading local Advisory Boards, and supervising staff. This role ensures program consistency and success while driving fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an annual area plan and implement it through overseeing day-to-day operations in local office(s).
  • Secure funding for programs and special projects.
  • Oversee programs to ensure program consistency and success.
  • Manage local Advisory Board(s) and associated committees.
  • Supervise local office staff.
  • Assist and direct Program staff to ensure program consistency and success.
  • Manage and oversee two key Special Events.
  • Collaborate with State Director to develop and implement a comprehensive local strategy for securing sustainable funding.
  • Work with local staff, Advisory Boards, and volunteers on funding strategy implementation.
  • Develop and implement major fundraising events to meet revenue goals.
  • Ensure program participants and staff are integrated into regional fundraising/awareness efforts.
  • Create brand awareness for Best Buddies.
  • Oversee recruitment, screening, hiring, and training of all local staff.
  • Approve all reports and conduct staff evaluations.
  • Provide appropriate guidance and motivation to staff.
  • Work with local staff to set strategic goals, including professional development.
  • Hold staff accountable for meeting goals.
  • Develop performance/behavior improvement plans as needed.
  • Research and provide professional development opportunities.
  • Track and record staff progress.
  • Inspire and motivate local staff through commitment, integrity, training, support, and recognition.
  • Oversee state staff’s involvement in HQ initiatives.
  • Assume overall operational management responsibility for all regional fundraising activities.
  • Oversee timely and accurate processing of all revenue and invoices.
  • Maintain accurate records of all donations and donor information.
  • Collaborate with State Director to develop, monitor, and balance the regional budget.

Requirements

  • Concrete experience in fundraising, including a record of success in expanding a donor base through cultivation and stewardship, grant writing, event planning/implementation, and/or board management.
  • Strong talent-building and team-building skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Must be comfortable engaging with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Must travel locally, use personal cell phone, and work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Access to an automobile with applicable insurance.
  • Some travel required to National Conferences.
