About the Role
Braze is seeking a Senior Cloud Security Engineer II to provide technical leadership and set the direction for cloud security. This role involves defining standards, leading cross-team initiatives, and tackling complex, undefined security challenges. You will focus on secure architecture, threat modeling, detection engineering, incident response, and Kubernetes/platform security, shaping Braze's overall cloud security strategy as an individual contributor.
Responsibilities
- Define cloud security standards, guardrails, and reference architectures for engineering teams.
- Set objectives and roadmap for high-impact cloud security work in partnership with leadership.
- Lead cross-functional security initiatives from scope to delivery.
- Mentor and uplevel other security and platform engineers.
- Represent cloud security in architecture and design forums.
- Own threat modeling for new cloud technologies and services.
- Partner with engineering teams to design secure-by-default cloud architectures.
- Drive control-plane and IAM security strategy across AWS and GCP.
- Assess cloud security posture and identify/prioritize risk reduction efforts.
- Advance cloud threat detection strategy and own detection coverage.
- Serve as a senior incident responder and cloud-forensics lead.
- Own and optimize security tooling (e.g., CrowdStrike, Tenable).
- Lead the vulnerability management workflow for cloud assets.
- Own the security of self-managed Kubernetes environments.
- Set standards for Infrastructure-as-Code and pipeline security.
- Establish best practices for patch management and base-image hardening.
- Lead the security of large-scale, distributed systems and self-managed data stores.
Requirements
- Several years owning cloud security in production, including on-call responsibilities.
- Hands-on experience with AWS as the primary cloud, working knowledge of GCP, and self-managed Kubernetes.
- Ability to read and write code (Python, Terraform).
