About the Role
The New York Times is seeking a Product Manager to join the News Product team, focusing on innovating across storytelling formats, surfaces, experiences, and the tools that power them. This role will support product development for editorially grounded initiatives, partnering with various teams to enhance reader engagement and specifically grow weekly usage of the comment section.
Responsibilities
- Define a roadmap by gathering requirements, authoring tickets, organizing the product backlog, communicating with partners, and assessing bugs and feedback
- Translate product ideas or editorial needs into clear, tangible tasks for engineering and design partners, and helping maintain a prioritized backlog
- Lead team ceremonies (stand-ups, planning, retros) and promoting a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven team culture
- Develop collaborative relationships with partners in Engineering, Design, Data, Project Management, Audience Insights, and the Newsroom
- Monitor product performance, gathering qualitative and quantitative insights, and using findings to inform product iterations
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Requirements
- 2+ years of product management or relevant work experience
- Experience working in ambiguous, cross-functional problem spaces with multiple stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience working with editors or newsrooms
- Experience growing an online community in a professional or personal capacity
- Familiarity with editorial format and publishing workflows
- An understanding of the evolving media, technology and news landscape
- A desire to grow as a product manager and learn from experienced product leaders
