About the Role

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient chart for completeness and accuracy.
  • Performs clinical tests ordered by the doctor based on exam type, patient complaint, and history.
  • Acts as a medical scribe during patient examinations, entering data into electronic medical records.
  • Takes ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
  • Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under physician direction.
  • Assists with simple in-office procedures, ensuring proper informed consent.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms.
  • Complies with all practice procedures, protocols, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Reports inventory and supply needs to leadership for ordering.
  • Participates in daily team huddles and required meetings.
  • Reports potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.
  • Contributes to team effort by completing additional tasks or projects.
  • Maintains a positive attitude with cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent years of related experience preferred.
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
  • Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
