About the Role
This is a generalist role for someone who likes wearing a lot of hats and switching between them without losing the thread. You will move between utility business development, wholesale market analysis, energy policy, and program delivery, often in the same week.
Responsibilities
- Help develop and win new commercial opportunities, supporting business development, partnerships, and RFP responses to utilities and government clients.
- Support program delivery, streamlining operational processes, and getting new projects off the ground.
- Analyze wholesale and retail energy markets to inform dispatch strategies, program design, and value analysis.
- Support regulatory engagement, from tracking proceedings to helping draft comments and position Octopus in front of utility commissions.
- Turn messy, ambiguous problems into clear analysis, sharp recommendations, and actionable decks.
- Build the models, memos, and materials that move a deal, a program, or a policy position forward.
- Jump into whatever the moment needs, sometimes at short notice, and help figure out the parts nobody's mapped yet.
Requirements
- 3–5 years in energy, ideally in distributed energy resources, DERMS, demand flexibility, virtual power plants, wholesale markets, utilities, or energy policy.
- Strong quantitative and data analysis skills.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear and persuasive writing and compelling presentation delivery.
- High tolerance for ambiguity, comfortable with context-switching, reprioritizing on the fly, and building solutions in dynamic environments.
- Demonstrated ownership and pace, driving work forward from idea to delivery without constant direction.
- Willingness to learn quickly in a fast-moving space.
- Bonus points for hands-on experience with utility programs, ISO/RTO markets, or regulatory proceedings.
