About the Role

The Director, Linear Systems leads the design, delivery, and modernization of Warner Bros. Discovery’s Linear advertising platforms. This role ensures linear ad-tech solutions are scalable, reliable, and integrated with converged linear and digital workflows, partnering with Sales, Product, and Engineering to translate business needs into system architectures. This position is critical for modernizing legacy systems, improving operational efficiency, and enabling revenue growth.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and technical direction of WBD’s Linear advertising systems.
  • Ensure interoperability across linear planning, forecasting, trafficking, billing, and reporting platforms.
  • Define system roadmaps that balance stability, performance, and modernization.
  • Lead teams responsible for delivering and operating business-critical linear ad-tech systems.
  • Oversee integrations between linear platforms and converged digital, identity, data, and sales systems.
  • Ensure high availability, operational excellence, and predictable delivery outcomes.
  • Drive the evolution of legacy linear systems toward converged, agentic-driven, and cloud-enabled architectures.
  • Implement standards for observability, security, compliance, and cost management.
  • Reduce technical debt while maintaining continuity for revenue-critical workflows.
  • Partner with Sales, Product, Finance, and Operations to align system capabilities with revenue and market priorities.
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor in leadership discussions related to linear monetization and system investment.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to executive and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline required; advanced certifications in cloud/architecture preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in enterprise software engineering or platform delivery.
  • At least 5 years in technical leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of linear advertising systems including planning, order management, trafficking, forecasting, yield, and reporting.
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale, high-availability systems.
  • Cloud and API experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record modernizing legacy systems while supporting active business operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and influence outcomes across Product, Sales, Finance, and Engineering.
