About the Role

The UK GPU team works on IPs that are part of Apple’s world-class GPU designs for Apple Silicon SoCs. We are seeking highly motivated, innovative and confident individuals to join us, across the following areas: RTL Design. RTL Power Optimisation and Physical Design. You will be at the centre of a chip design effort working with all disciplines, with a critical impact on getting high performant products to millions of Apple customers efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Assist with delivering high quality IP to meet performance, feature, timing, area, and power goals.
- Collaborate with Design Engineers, platform architecture, functional verification, and physical design teams.
- Balance energy efficiency and area constraints with project schedule and maintainability.
- Analyze and optimize power takedown strategies for next-generation silicon designs.
- Set targets for future IP and generate insightful power data.
- Innovate and enhance methodologies for power data extraction and reporting.
- Work on the physical design of new Apple products and learn modern ASIC design flow.
- Work through all aspects of physical design from floorplanning of blocks, placement, and routing.
- Partner with engineers to identify metrics and analyze results.
- Write scripts to automate flows and improve key metrics.
- Utilize the latest technologies and learn from experienced engineers.
- Partner with RTL Design teams to understand chip architecture and how physical design integrates.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Must return to school to continue education after the internship, or the internship must be the last requirement for graduation.
- Curiosity about GPU / CPU architecture and micro-architecture.
- Strong coding skills with C or C++ for internships in RTL Design and RTL Power Optimisation.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl, Python or Ruby.
- Familiarity with SystemVerilog / Verilog / VHDL.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Ability to work well within a team and be productive under tight schedules.
- Understanding of STA and Synthesis for an internship in Physical Design.
