About the Role

The Floater Maintenance position is responsible for providing maintenance and custodial support at various BUFFSCI locations as needed. This position will serve as a flexible resource to assist with staffing coverage, building maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and other facilities-related needs. The Floater Maintenance employee may be assigned to different buildings or work locations based on operational needs and will be expected to adapt to changing assignments and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide maintenance and custodial coverage at various BUFFSCI locations as assigned.
  • Perform routine building maintenance and repairs, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general repairs.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining classrooms, offices, common areas, restrooms, and other assigned spaces.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and address routine facility concerns in a timely manner.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and securing buildings as assigned.
  • Set up and break down rooms, furniture, equipment, and facilities for meetings, events, and other activities.
  • Perform snow removal, grounds maintenance, and other seasonal duties as needed.
  • Operate maintenance equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and appropriately.
  • Maintain assigned tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, building regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or other facility issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist other maintenance staff with projects and special assignments as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism when working in school and administrative environments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance, custodial services, construction, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and respond appropriately to changing needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work at various BUFFSCI locations.
  • Valid driver's license may be required depending on assignment.
  • Employees are expected to demonstrate reliability, professionalism, good judgment, and a commitment to maintaining safe, clean, and functional facilities for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adjust to different locations and assignments are essential.
