About the Role

As a Legal Operations Manager – Contract Management & Legal Tech (w/m/d), you will advance our contract management system, making it uniform, digital, and automated. You will select tools, set priorities, and build the solution using lean, standard, or low-code applications and AI where it genuinely saves effort. GovTech Deutschland enters into contracts with demanders from federal, state, and local governments, as well as with innovative technology companies. The role has two facets: you will develop the system and work within it operationally, reviewing incoming contracts, identifying deviations from our standards, and preparing decisions.

Responsibilities

Develop our contract inventory into a comprehensive, structured overview of all contract types, from framework and individual contracts with demanders to contracts with our technology partners, including a data model and linking customer and supplier contracts (back-to-back).
Perform initial reviews of incoming contracts and contract amendments based on a clause and review catalog that you help shape: identify deviations from our standards and present them to our Legal Counsel with a recommendation. Independently handle recurring standard processes such as confidentiality agreements.
Prepare contract negotiations through contract comparisons, amendment summaries, and technical foundations.
Expand the systematic Obligation Management: capture and monitor key deadlines and obligations from customer and supplier contracts – such as terms, termination notice periods, renewal options, SLAs, proofs, acceptances, or cooperation obligations – and ensure timely reminders to responsible individuals.
Enhance our versioned template management and clause library into a self-service for all departments, including your own suggestions for improving templates.
Select and implement the technical solution on a low-code or standard SaaS basis, including requirements for procurement and data protection review.
Automate recurring steps such as metadata extraction, document generation, status updates, and reporting – also using AI tools, whose results you critically review.
Manage the contract process between review and conclusion: coordinate internal approvals, follow up on open items, and ensure contracts are fully reviewed, approved, signed, and correctly filed.

You may come from the legal tech team of a law firm, from legal operations in a legal department, from a provider of contract management software, or from a digitalization project in administration – perhaps even from a completely different path.
You are enthusiastic about the interface of law and technology: you enjoy reading contracts and, while reading, already think about which part of this work can be systematized.
You can translate contract texts into structure: you reliably recognize terms, termination notice periods, renewal options, written form requirements, liability, and confidentiality, as well as dependencies between two contracts – and know what they mean in practice.
You have personally built something that has taken work off your hands – such as a structured database (Airtable, Notion, SharePoint lists), an automation workflow (Power Automate, Make, n8n), or document automation. Whether in your job, during your studies, or as a side project, is irrelevant to us.
Ideally, you have a degree with a legal or technological focus – such as a Bachelor of Law in Business Law, Law, First State Examination in Law, a Legal Tech program, or Business or Administrative Informatics.
You enjoy making your own decisions, involve colleagues, and introduce a new approach in a way that it is actually used.
You think in structures and systems, work carefully and pragmatically, and enjoy creating overview and clarity.
Experience with contract management or legal tech systems, knowledge of EVB-IT contract types, basic knowledge of procurement or data protection law.
Very good German language skills, both written and spoken; English skills are an advantage.
