About the Role

As a Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining our data infrastructure, ensuring efficient and accurate data processing, storage, and retrieval for advanced analytics and climate modeling.

Responsibilities

• Help build and maintain a data platform for advanced analytics and climate modelling, spanning data science and data engineering work.
• Contribute to the full lifecycle of data platform development from design and deployment to continuous improvement.
• Strengthen data pipelines reliability, observability, and automation through code and tooling improvements.
• Collaborate with data scientists and researchers to define data processing requirements.
• Support AI/LLM initiatives across the organisation from a data and infrastructure perspective.
• Help develop backend data services and APIs that expose curated datasets to internal and external consumers and applications.
• Monitor, anticipate, and resolve operational or data quality issues in data pipelines.
• Ensure data reliability.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, ideally with a specialization in Data Engineering or DevOps, or a related field.
• Initial experience as a Data Engineer in a production environment.
• Foundational notions in data modeling, data structures, algorithms, design patterns, optimization.
• Familiarity with Python, SQL, PostgreSQL, Object storage (like S3/Minio), Containers (like Docker), Git, CI/CD principles.
• Basic understanding of data pipelines, APIs, or backend services.
• Exposure to data engineering in the context of Agentic AI, Generative AI, Machine Learning, or Business Intelligence across different types of data formats and processing methods.
• Passionate about working at the intersection of Climate Science and Data Engineering.
• A problem solver, a fixer, and a creative technologist.
• A strong communicator and a team player who can work efficiently with others, in a diverse, interdisciplinary and international team.
• Exceptional time management in a complex and largely autonomous work environment.
• Good communication skills in English.
