About the Role
Guidehouse's Commercial Strategy team within our Energy Providers practice is seeking an Associate Director to support electric and gas utility leadership in solving high-priority challenges related to new commercial and operating models in the evolving energy landscape. This role involves leading client engagements in the US, focusing on complex energy transformation journeys and requiring expertise in the utilities/energy industry, problem-solving, and strategy consulting.
Responsibilities
- Understand client business challenges related to the energy transition.
- Develop and own client relationships within the utilities and adjacent industries.
- Support the strategy, design, and delivery of project workstreams.
- Coordinate and facilitate client and stakeholder meetings.
- Prepare and communicate solutions through reports and presentations.
- Engage in business development, including proposal delivery.
- Lead and manage internal project teams across multiple workstreams.
- Foster a feedback culture through coaching and mentoring project team members.
- Provide input to project directors and partners on technical and strategic project delivery.
- Lead workshops, communicating complex information clearly.
- Develop strategy storylines throughout project lifecycles.
- Develop business models analyzing multiple scenarios.
- Oversee the development of target operating models.
- Develop strategy roadmaps for effective implementation.
- Identify how macro trends, competition, and regulatory environments influence strategy.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, business, economics, environmental, science or related discipline AND Seven (7+) plus years of relevant post-graduation industry or consulting experience; OR Master's degree in an engineering, business, economics, environmental, science or related discipline AND Five (5+) plus years of relevant post-graduation industry or consulting experience.
- Strategy background from an equivalent consulting firm, with a preference for utilities industry experience.
- Deep understanding of business and project management fundamentals.
- Proven business development experience, with a track record of selling and delivering work within the utilities or energy industry.
- Advanced experience creating and developing business and financial models in Microsoft Excel.
- Advanced experience in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint, with comfort leveraging AI-tools.
- Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to process complex information and present it clearly.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and deliver against tight deadlines.
- Experience developing and delivering presentations to executive audiences.
- Track record of leading and managing teams effectively.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly developed organizational and management skills.
- An inquisitive nature and desire for continuous improvement.
- Tireless attention to detail in all prior experience.
- Ability to travel weekly as required.
- Ability to work onsite in a Guidehouse Office or Client Office location 1-3 days per week.
