About the Role
The Ethics & Independence team protects the firm and drives quality by ensuring compliance with independence requirements. This role supports and enables client-facing teams and individuals regarding personal independence, including personal connections, fit and proper considerations, and financial interests. The team aligns with the needs of service lines, supporting teams in maintaining independence for audit and public interest assurance engagements as required by regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Respond to and support others with formal Ethics and Independence consultations.
- Support the onboarding and ongoing maintenance processes for recording individuals’ financial interests.
- Support internal monitoring exercises, including periodic monitoring of financial interest records.
- Lead on wider independence activities and ad-hoc projects.
- Execute work on time at the expected volume and quality levels, in line with policies and procedures.
- Use judgement to analyze independence matters, identify risks, and apply appropriate safeguards or escalation routes.
- Contribute to the development of junior team members by sharing knowledge and providing support.
- Communicate clearly and professionally.
- Listen actively and incorporate others' viewpoints.
- Collaborate to build relationships within the practice, team, and wider Quality & Risk function.
- Manage time and prioritize effectively, juggling multiple priorities.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency and/or innovation.
Requirements
- Experience in personal independence, ethics, risk, compliance, audit quality, professional standards, or a similar regulatory environment.
- Understanding of UK Ethics and Independence requirements (FRC Ethical Standard, ICAEW Code of Ethics, IESBA Code of Ethics).
- Ability to use judgement to interpret policies, procedures, or regulatory requirements and apply them to real-life scenarios.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Experience managing a varied workload, prioritizing effectively, and communicating confidently with stakeholders in a fast-paced work environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office 365 applications (e.g., Excel, Word).
