About the Role
Block by Block employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner. This role offers high visibility at the street level to perform various cleaning tasks while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor. It's an excellent opportunity for retirees, veterans, and graduating high school seniors.
Responsibilities
- Perform a wide variety of cleaning tasks in an assigned zone.
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times.
- Engage pedestrians and visitors with friendly greetings and provide directions or city information.
- Remove litter, including fast food bags, cups, soda cans, and cigarette butts from streets, sidewalks, and alleys.
- Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, and news boxes.
- Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
- Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces like trash can lids and news boxes.
- Observe for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios.
- Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
- Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
