About the Role
Hammersmith & Fulham is seeking an exceptional Director of Housing to lead high-quality, resident-focused housing services and drive improvement, innovation, and transformation within the Housing and Neighbourhoods department. This senior leadership role oversees a broad portfolio including housing improvement, governance, resident safety, repairs, asset management, homelessness prevention, and neighborhood services. The goal is to ensure services are safe, compliant, financially sustainable, and resident-centered, fostering continuous improvement and embedding a resident-focused approach in decision-making and service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of high-quality, resident-focused housing services.
- Shape the next phase of improvement, innovation, and transformation across the Housing and Neighbourhoods department.
- Oversee housing improvement and governance.
- Manage resident and building safety.
- Direct repairs and maintenance.
- Handle asset management and capital delivery.
- Lead homelessness prevention efforts.
- Manage allocations and lettings.
- Oversee neighbourhood services.
- Manage estates and leaseholder services.
- Ensure services are safe, compliant, and financially sustainable.
- Shape services around resident feedback and experiences.
- Provide visible and inclusive leadership.
- Drive continuous improvement.
- Embed a 'doing things with residents' approach.
- Translate ambition into practical delivery plans.
- Improve services and strengthen confidence among residents, Members, and partners.
Requirements
- Strategic, compassionate, and commercially astute housing leader.
- Strong track record of delivering complex housing services in a local authority or similarly regulated environment.
- Extensive senior management experience.
- Sound judgement.
- Strong political awareness.
- Ability to lead large, multi-disciplinary teams through change.
- Maintain a sharp focus on performance, compliance, value for money, and resident outcomes.
- Understand the legislative and regulatory framework for housing, homelessness, health and safety, leasehold, and tenancy matters.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and adults.
- Commitment to removing barriers in the workplace and providing adjustments during the recruitment process.
