About the Role
This role specializes in ensuring a diverse range of young people’s voices are heard, facilitating inclusive activities to increase youth participation, and leading the facilitation of the Youth Advisory Board. The role is at the heart of delivering an ambitious plan to improve and accelerate the youth voice strategy. The position is primarily based in the day center, working face-to-face with young people, and will also contribute to the core day-center service.
Responsibilities
- Leading the youth voice programme to ensure meaningful and inclusive youth participation.
- Coordinating and leading the Youth Advisory Board, wider youth voice sessions, and youth recruitment panels.
- Collaborating with the Campaigns, Impact and Partnerships Team to ensure young people’s voices inform external policy and campaigns.
- Creating and maintaining a network of relationships and partnerships with external agencies.
- Contributing to the daily running of the day centre, delivering a holistic service to young people facing homelessness.
- Developing and delivering the Youth Voice programme, engaging young people in face-to-face groups and 1-1 sessions.
- Coordinating and leading on the Youth Advisory Board, wider youth voice sessions, and youth recruitment panels.
- Referring young people to other internal teams for support with housing, health, life-skills, and youth safety.
- Leading engagement of youth voice within the wider organisation, ensuring participation in service design, delivery, and feedback.
- Working closely with the Campaigns, Impact and Partnerships Team to ensure young people inform youth homelessness policies, campaigns, and external media content.
- Establishing and maintaining partnerships with other relevant youth-led organisations and partners.
- Completing registrations, assessments, and action plans with young people.
- Regularly reviewing cases and following up with young people or partners.
- Ensuring risk management and assessment procedures are followed.
- Providing advocacy and making referrals to appropriate services.
- Contributing to the daily running of the drop-in centre, including attending daily briefings and debriefings.
- Attending reflective practice, staff meetings, and team meetings.
- Proactively sharing best practice with internal and external stakeholders.
- Working in partnership with other youth or co-production organisations.
- Identifying and responding to opportunities with specialists and agencies for resources, funding, or services.
- Contributing to cross-team research and innovation projects.
- Producing and maintaining accurate and useful information for service delivery and evaluation.
- Recording all contacts with clients appropriately and maintaining relevant files.
- Inputting and extracting information from monitoring systems and databases.
- Being self-servicing in day-to-day administration.
- Proactively reviewing and evaluating own performance and identifying areas for improvement.
- Continuously reviewing working practices in line with client feedback and best practice.
- Reviewing and evaluating own performance to identify strengths and areas for development.
- Identifying own learning and development needs and opportunities.
- Undertaking development and training opportunities.
- Contributing positively and constructively to the development of the teams, service, and NHYC.
- Covering for other members of the team where necessary.
- Following NHYC’s policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
Requirements
- Experience delivering engaging and innovative youth work programmes for young people with multiple complex issues.
- In-depth knowledge of youth work principles and practices or knowledge of homelessness and their interaction.
- Experience planning and facilitating 1-1 and groupwork sessions with young people, considering support needs, language levels, and diversity.
- Experience delivering inclusive youth voice, engagement, or co-production sessions enabling meaningful participation from diverse communities.
- Proven track record creating and maintaining external partnerships and networks.
- Ability to work in partnership to deliver life-skills sessions to young people.
- Understanding of behaviour young people might demonstrate, ability to understand behaviour in a trauma-informed way, and developing strategies for managing behaviour.
- Ability to multitask, make decisions, and manage multiple priorities effectively in a pressured, fast-paced environment.
- Confidence using IT systems such as Microsoft Office and databases.
- Understanding of and commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
- Thorough understanding of safeguarding policies, including raising concerns, reporting information, and implementing procedures.
- Experience leading on or implementing a youth voice or youth engagement strategy within a service or organisation (desirable).
- Experience working with young people on campaigns and media content (desirable).
- Experience working to performance indicators, including monitoring and reporting on service outputs/outcomes, client tracking, analysing performance information, and identifying corrective action (desirable).
- Up-to-date working knowledge of local and national government policies relating to employment, education, benefits, housing, healthcare, and sexual health for young people (desirable).
- Willingness and ability to work outside of normal hours on occasion.
- Willingness to work flexibly in response to changing organisational requirements.
- Willingness to work from different sites including the day centre in Camden.
