About the Role

The Paid Prevention Intern (PPI) is a 12-month, grant funded, part-time position working and learning in a NYS OASAS Prevention program. The PPI is designed to offer an entry level pathway to individuals interested in the Prevention field and ultimately in pursuing a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) or Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) credential. Completion of the internship guarantees an individual 60 hours of Prevention-specific education and training.

Responsibilities

  • Learns the process of identifying the needs of a community.
  • Learns about and utilize Evidence Based Programs (EBP) to assess needs of individuals, families, and the community.
  • Develops and implements Environmental Change Strategy efforts.
  • Participates in community engagement; attends community meetings, collaborates with community coalitions, and task forces, and strengthens community relationships.
  • Works closely with community stakeholders including service providers, schools, law enforcement, and local businesses to provide prevention education and tools.
  • Aids the agency with development and implementation of new workshops and initiatives to serve the community.
  • Meets regularly with supervisor to receive necessary training and supervision to be able to complete all tasks.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all records reviewed including consumer records, employee records and billing records.
  • Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize duties.
  • Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier.
  • Continuous use of a reliable, registered and insured vehicle.
  • Ability to demonstrate behaviors and attitudes which support organizational mission, philosophy, and policies.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative and helpful manner with all individuals.
  • Willingness and ability to foster agency and program wide cooperation and teamwork through use of positive/constructive communication techniques.
  • Provide effective, equitable, understandable and respectful quality care and services that are responsive to diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health literacy and other communication needs.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to type and/or perform light lifting.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • All duties must be performed in accordance with CCFCS’s corporate compliance & ethics program.
