About the Role
As Manager Onboard Technology at FlixTrain, you will be responsible for the technology that determines how our passengers stay connected, navigate, and experience every journey onboard. You will shape how FlixTrain stays ahead and continues to offer high-quality, memorable travel experiences in a rapidly evolving railway world.
Responsibilities
- Manage the entire FlixTrain onboard technology ecosystem, including Wi-Fi, networks, onboard units, and mobile devices.
- Act as the central technical point of contact for all onboard systems, evaluating specifications, weighing trade-offs, and making informed decisions.
- Continuously monitor onboard technology performance, identify issues early, and drive improvements.
- Lead cross-functional projects related to connectivity, network performance, and mobile device integration into the vehicle fleet.
- Define technical specifications and network architectures that are ambitious, achievable, and ensure seamless interfaces with the vehicle fleet.
- Develop test scenarios and functional validations, particularly at the critical interface with customers and certification bodies.
- Stay informed about new technologies like 5G, IoT, and Starlink, translating insights into recommendations for FlixTrain's technology roadmap.
Requirements
- Hold a completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Possess over two years of practical experience in network architecture, Wi-Fi systems, or mobile device management, ideally within the rail vehicle environment or a similarly complex technical setting.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and proven experience in troubleshooting complex network systems under pressure.
- Willingness to take ownership, independently complete tasks, and confidently lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Communicate clearly and persuasively with both technical experts and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in both German and English, as you will work in an international team and collaborate with German-speaking suppliers and authorities.
- Experience with rail vehicle system suppliers and familiarity with the contractual, technical, and regulatory environment of the railway industry is advantageous.
