About the Role
As Head of Data Enablement, you will lead the supply side of the Central Data Office, focusing on trusted, reusable data assets and standards to increase speed and safety. You will drive the transition from control-led data management to value-led enablement, ensuring data is accessible, trusted, and fit for use, while embedding governance, quality, and AI-readiness by design into MRS-GM platforms and products.
Responsibilities
- Define, build, and certify reusable data products with clear ownership, consumers, SLAs, definitions, and fitness-for-purpose.
- Stand up the founding catalogue (e.g., counterparty/entity, delegated authority, finance, portfolio/exposure) with a one-page specification per product.
- Deliver an early, visible asset, such as the semantic layer for the entity product, within the first quarter.
- Own the semantic layer, data dictionary, and business glossary to ensure a single trusted definition for core entities and measures.
- Partner with the CIO’s engineering function on a data contract at the source, ensuring engineering delivers ingested data to an agreed interface and Enablement curates it into certified products.
- Ensure governance and quality are applied upfront to data entering strategic platforms and operational systems.
- Encode policy into technical controls embedded in workflows and platforms, rather than manual review.
- Keep controls proportionate to business risk and rationalize them across other compliance data functions.
- Define data quality as fit for the critical process it serves and embed quality ownership at source and in systems.
- Prioritize remediation by business and regulatory impact.
- Make priority data usable, discoverable, and fit for AI, and own AI governance, including responsible-AI controls, model-data lineage, and readiness.
- Ensure alignment with emerging AI regulation.
- Make trusted data discoverable, accessible, and reliable on the modern platform to out-compete tactical builds.
- Drive adoption of modern platforms for prioritized use cases.
- Ensure change initiatives consume certified products and complete a data-product requirement at scoping.
- Supply the standards, specifications, and quality gates that make programs genuinely data-led.
- Ensure reusable supply exists, is trusted, and is used, with embedded delivery jointly owned with Product & Delivery.
Requirements
- Proven experience in data enablement, data-product delivery, or data-driven transformation, with a track record of translating data capability into measurable business outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize, and deliver high-value data use cases (underwriting insight, operational efficiency, risk optimization), moving beyond concept into scaled adoption.
- Experience building a semantic layer, data dictionary, catalogue, and master data/entity resolution, and achieving adoption.
- Experience replacing shadow/tactical reporting with certified, reusable data products.
- Experience implementing data contracts with engineering and encoding governance as computational controls embedded in workflows.
- AI governance and responsible-AI experience, and the ability to make data fit for AI.
- Specialty/London Market data fluency: delegated authority, ceded reinsurance, entity resolution, and Lloyd’s data standards.
- Strong understanding of modern data ecosystems (platforms, analytics tooling, pipelines) with a focus on usability, accessibility, and adoption.
- Ability to balance speed, risk, and control, implementing proportionate governance that enables delivery while maintaining safeguards.
- Strong people leadership and influencing skills, with the authority and credibility to mobilize cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data concepts into clear, non-technical narratives.
