About the Role
As a SWE II in the Web Platform & Standards team, you will work on consolidating our frontend codebases into a single monorepo, serving as the foundation for faster, safer, and more consistent delivery across every web surface. This role acts as the connective tissue between the Web Platform team and product teams whose code is being migrated.
Responsibilities
- Migrate frontend codebases into the new monorepo, working through them team by team.
- Partner with product teams to land migrations with minimal disruption, learning their code, agreeing on a plan, and staying with them through cutover.
- Build the tooling, scripts, and documentation that make migration repeatable, enabling teams to increasingly perform it independently.
- Improve the day-to-day developer experience of the monorepo, including build and continuous integration times, pipeline reliability, and local setup.
- Maintain visibility of migration progress and blockers to engineering managers and product teams.
- Grow into independent ownership of a platform area within the first year.
Requirements
- Solid working proficiency in TypeScript and React, producing clean, tested code without close supervision.
- Comfortable reading and modifying code written by others, including in unfamiliar codebases.
- Familiarity with the frontend application build and shipping process, including package management, dependency graphs, and continuous integration; a strong appetite to learn is valued.
- Willingness to script or automate repetitive tasks rather than performing them manually.
- Prior platform, build tooling, or infrastructure experience is not required; capable product engineers looking to transition into platform work are encouraged to apply.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential for proposing changes and providing status updates.
- Genuine curiosity and a fast learning ability, with a proactive approach to exploring unfamiliar parts of the stack.
- Comfort with ambiguity, contributing to the definition of the migration sequence.
- Derives satisfaction from enabling other teams to ship faster, rather than personal feature output.
- Daily use of AI coding assistants, particularly for cross-package refactoring.
- Utilizes AI to rapidly understand unfamiliar codebases.
- Ability to sanity-check AI-generated code and discern its reliability.
