About the Role

We are developing a driver monitoring system (DMS) that detects driver inattention using an in-cabin camera. DMS is becoming a standard and safety-critical feature in new vehicles. As a supplier of DMS for Toyota, we are responsible for the entire mass-production development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and product implementation to functional safety, quality assurance, and customer delivery. Our challenge is to robustly monitor the driver, passengers, and driving environment, and to handle cases where parts of the face are obscured by glasses or beards. The next-generation in-cabin monitoring system (IMS) will improve performance, enhance robustness, and expand use cases, monitoring whether the driver maintains appropriate attention based on the level of autonomous driving and driving conditions. We aim to meet the strict safety and quality standards required for in-vehicle mass production.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer and system requirements for mass-production driver monitoring systems and implement software based on them.
  • Implement, evaluate, and improve in-cabin perception software (e.g., using MATLAB/Simulink, C++, Python).
  • Engage in safety and quality activities such as DRBFM, functional safety, and SOTIF throughout the development process.
  • Develop tools to automate and improve the development workflow.
  • Assist in managing project schedules, deliverables, and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with other developers or contractors for software implementation.
  • Communicate and coordinate deliverables with Toyota and other suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering field.
  • Experience in mass-production product development, including requirements analysis and product implementation.
  • 2-3+ years of software development experience in C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or another major programming language.
  • Interest and basic knowledge in automotive safety and quality domains such as DRBFM, functional safety (ISO 26262), SOTIF (ISO 21448), or quality audits.
  • Japanese language proficiency (JLPT N1 or equivalent) and basic conversational English skills to collaborate within Japanese companies (Toyota and group companies) and Japanese business practices.
