About the Role

AJL Plumbing & Heating is seeking an experienced Commercial Plumbing Estimator for its Long Island operation. The company is a licensed and insured contractor serving commercial and residential clients across Nassau and Suffolk.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate material and labor takeoffs
• Prepare plumbing estimates, identifying labor, material, and time requirements
• Adjust estimates based on addendums and review RFIs
• Bid on both open shop and prevailing wage projects
• Maintain and update unit cost databases and vendor pricing
• Determine production factors influencing material, equipment, and labor costs
• Receive vendor/supplier quotes for materials and assess cost-effectiveness
• Develop and maintain relationships with general contractors
• Follow up on bids and discuss final numbers with estimators and project managers
• Work independently to complete estimating tasks until proposal approval and handover to project manager

Requirements

• 3-10+ years of commercial plumbing estimating experience
• 3-10+ years of commercial plumbing field experience
• Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion
• Ability to follow up with bids and discuss best and final numbers with estimators and project managers to be awarded the job
• Must be able to meet deadlines on bids

Skills

• Proficiency in mathematics, statistics, and data analysis
• Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
• Exceptional problem-solving skills
• Ability to fix issues quickly that are happening on jobsite and fall into the estimating process
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
• Knowledge of Procure and Building Connected for receiving bid files and sending out bid forms and proposals
• Exceptional time management skills
