About the Role

Alt Vault is building a standalone $100M+ business, and this role is its founding engineer. Responsibilities include automating intake, scan orchestration, and quality control to expedite item go-live times, extending the system to new asset classes, and shipping Vault-as-a-Service with account infrastructure, billing, and APIs for programmatic asset management by enterprise partners. The key metric is reducing the time from item receipt to live on the platform, especially as asset classes multiply. This role involves software that interacts with the physical world, requiring an understanding of operational complexity, P&Ls, and SLAs.

Responsibilities

Automate the vault pipeline to drastically reduce the time from item received to live on platform, including intake automation, scan orchestration, and quality-control tooling.
Architect the account infrastructure, billing, and external APIs for Vault-as-a-Service, enabling enterprise partners to vault, ship, and manage assets programmatically.
Optimize the digitization stack, including card imaging and lighting pipelines, and enhance static photos into 360-degree views.
Take features from technical design through polished UI, ensuring the product surfaces are as sharp as the backend.
Level up the growing Vault team through code reviews, technical documentation, and mentorship.

Requirements

5+ years of backend experience (Python, Postgres, AWS or similar cloud infrastructure) and frontend experience (React, React Native, JavaScript/TypeScript).
A track record of owning features or systems from design to production.
Business-owner thinking, understanding P&Ls, SLAs, and the requirements to run a product as an independent business unit.
A pull toward operational complexity, energized by problems bridging software and the physical world.
Pragmatism and pace, knowing when to build custom and when to integrate, with a bias toward action.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, including writing great docs, asking smart questions, and giving thoughtful feedback.
A user-first mindset with a sharp eye for clean UX and performance.
