About the Role

Provide in-house legal services to support various business lines and functions, including General Casualty, Healthcare, Professional Lines, Property, Marine Cargo, Fine Art & Specie, Construction and Facultative Reinsurance underwriting business activities of Allied World’s Europe and Lloyd’s platforms.

Responsibilities

• Analyze contract terms of new/renewal business to identify exposures, document underwriting intent, and confirm compliance with terms and corporate guidelines.
• Draft policy forms, endorsements, and ancillary policy documents.
• Maintain knowledge of Allied World’s business activities, statutory laws, regulations, and judicial developments.
• Review, draft, and negotiate underwriting agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and other agreements.
• Support continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes.
• Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures.
• Provide support to underwriters on legal issues pertaining to submissions and coverage.
• Provide support to claims personnel on coverage and procedural issues.
• Maintain standard policy wordings and endorsements for ceded facultative reinsurance.
• Coordinate with and assist other global legal department personnel.
• Handle complex issues and communicate relevant guidance to internal colleagues.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years’ post-qualification experience in insurance or reinsurance coverage litigation or arbitration.
• In-house experience within an insurance company or a Lloyd’s syndicate is a distinct advantage.
• Experience in drafting commercial insurance contracts.
• Strong analytical and technical skill sets.
• Ability to quickly understand key business issues and operational objectives.
• Effective and confident communicator of complex messages (written and oral) to both internal and external audiences.
• Good interpersonal skills and a positive team member.
• Commercially minded, decisive, highly organized and principled.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, deal with conflicting agendas and meet deadlines.
