About the Role
Fortaegis is seeking an experienced Embedded Linux / Firmware Engineer to develop robust and secure low-level software for revolutionary products, from the boot chain up through the kernel. This role involves working across the entire development lifecycle, from pre-silicon validation to post-silicon bring-up, ensuring high standards of quality and security.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and debug firmware and low-level system software for ARM Cortex-A based SoCs and their associated peripherals.
- Develop and maintain Linux kernel code: device drivers, device tree, and platform and bus level integration for new silicon.
- Implement and execute comprehensive unit testing strategies to ensure code quality and reliability.
- Actively participate in both pre-silicon and post-silicon validation and bring-up activities, including work on emulation and FPGA prototyping platforms.
- Collaborate closely with hardware and architecture teams to define specifications, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of secure firmware features across the software stack.
- Develop high-quality, well-documented APIs and maintain strong design principles throughout the development process.
- Work effectively within a collaborative team environment, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Develop and integrate the TCP/IP networking stack on the kernel side, including network device drivers and packet datapath work.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in firmware and embedded software development, with a strong focus on embedded systems.
- Proven expertise with ARM Cortex-A processors and their peripherals.
- Hands-on Linux kernel development experience: writing and debugging device drivers, working with device tree, and diagnosing issues in kernel space.
- Demonstrable experience with firmware unit testing and involvement in pre-silicon and post silicon development phases.
- Solid understanding of good API and design skills for robust and maintainable code.
- Experience with the TCP/IP stack in a kernel or embedded context, covering sockets, network drivers, and performance tuning.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a track record of working effectively with hardware, architecture, and cross-functional teams.
