About the Role

The Data Solutions Specialist role accelerates the College’s digital transformation by bridging stakeholders and the digital data environment. This position partners with internal teams and external vendors to align priorities with a modern data architecture, delivering scalable data pipelines, enabling self-service visualization tools, and enhancing data literacy to empower a secure, data-informed K-12 environment prepared for future technologies.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain a strong understanding of the College’s data systems and structures.
Conduct structured discovery sessions with stakeholders to identify opportunities to streamline and improve data workflows through automation, API integrations, and emerging technologies like AI.
Translate stakeholder requirements into clear, documented data specifications and project briefs.
Build and maintain trusted relationships across the College to ensure alignment between data capabilities and organizational needs.
Develop and maintain vendor partnerships.
Work with the Manager, Data & Analytics to develop tools and solutions for independent data access, analysis, and interpretation.
Support the development and execution of the College's data strategy, including data migration to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) & BigQuery.
Collaborate to design, develop, and maintain scalable end-to-end data pipelines (ETL/ELT).
Implement data governance and privacy best practices to ensure compliance with legislation and policies.
Continuously evaluate the data technology stack against emerging trends to identify opportunities for automation or AI integration.
Provide data systems technical support and liaise with vendors for escalations.
Promote and reinforce responsible data governance and management best practices.
Create and maintain technical documentation and process manuals.
Support the secure exploration, development, and deployment of AI technologies.
Develop and deliver internal professional development to enhance data literacy skills.
Support broader technology initiatives within the Information & Innovation team.
Participate in ongoing professional learning and development.
Contribute to continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
Be a mentor for an IB continuum project.

Requirements

Post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science, data analytics, information technology, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a business analysis, information technology, or data/analytics role.
Demonstrated experience engaging with non-technical stakeholders to gather, define, and document data or system requirements.
Experience with data warehousing concepts and best practices for data storage and security.
Strong working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage, and related services.
Understanding of API concepts, data integration patterns, and workflow automation principles.
Proficiency in SQL, including writing and optimizing queries for data extraction, transformation, and validation in environments such as Google BigQuery.
Working knowledge of Python & Google Coding tools such as Apps Script for data manipulation, automation scripting, and interacting with cloud services and APIs.
Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, and data security principles.
Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools such as Google Data Studio.
Knowledge of AI tools and prompt optimization techniques.
A current Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Record Check is required as a condition of employment.
