About the Role
e-Zinc is seeking a Senior Engineer, Electrical & Power Systems to design, integrate, and validate electrical systems for their long-duration energy storage technology. This role involves ownership of the electrical system throughout its lifecycle, from architecture and modeling to testing and deployment, collaborating with the Battery Energy Storage System team to create safe, reliable, and scalable solutions. It is ideal for an engineer who enjoys tackling complex power system challenges, working with hardware and suppliers, and seeing designs implemented in real-world projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, integration, testing, and certification of the Power Conversion System (PCS) and associated electrical systems.
- Develop and review electrical system architectures, specifications, single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, conductor and cable schedules, grounding systems, and construction documentation.
- Size and select inverters, DC converters, protection systems, and other PCS components.
- Collaborate with Software and Controls to integrate control logic and communications between the BMS and power conversion components.
- Prepare or support electrical studies, including system impact, grounding, protection and coordination, arc flash, and harmonics.
- Support supplier engagement, RFQs, purchase orders, and project cost estimates.
- Prepare technical content and electrical inputs for customer proposals and project development.
- Participate in prototype builds, system qualification testing, installation, commissioning, and field deployment.
- Troubleshoot electrical and system-level issues and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
- Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, safety, cost, and manufacturability.
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise to the engineering team.
- Communicate project risks, technical issues, and recommendations to leadership and the project team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, preferably with a focus on Power Systems, Power Electronics, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in power systems, power conversion, energy storage, renewables, industrial systems, or a related field.
- Experienced in SolidWorks and PDM.
- Experience designing, integrating, testing, or commissioning power conversion systems, inverters, or industrial electrical systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical system design, power distribution, protection, grounding, and electrical safety.
- Experience developing and reviewing single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, layouts, and detailed engineering drawings.
- Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), National Electrical Code (NEC), ESA requirements, and applicable CSA standards.
- Experience with electrical engineering software and tools used for system design, analysis, and documentation.
- Self-directed, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-moving, evolving environment.
