About the Role
The Library Page position is an educational opportunity for currently enrolled students within the Library’s special collections conservation lab. This role supports the preservation and access of millions of special collections, offering hands-on experience in rehousing and basic stabilization of collections. Participants can also engage in more intensive treatments, exhibition preparation, and contribute to lab workflow development. The position includes access to the Library Page Fellowship Program for career development.
Responsibilities
- Perform rehousing and basic stabilization of collections
- Provide support and assistance to other staff members as needed
- Contribute to the continued development of the lab’s overall organization, workflows, assets, and capabilities
- Provide additional administrative support to the lab as necessary
Requirements
- Page Positions are reserved for candidates who are currently enrolled as students in a degree program/accredited school. (High School, GED Program, Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, etc)
- Proper employment certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law
- Interest in cultural heritage
- Demonstrated manual dexterity and hand skills
- Computer fluency, especially with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
- Sound organizational skills
- Demonstrated flexibility and reliability
- Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships
- Lifting -- perhaps up to 30 lbs
- Working with machines (computerized mat cutter, ultrasonic and edge polyester welders)
- Work under fume or dust extraction equipment
- Work at a workbench (as opposed to a desk)
- Moving book carts

About the Company
- The Library’s special collections conservation lab supports NYPL's three research centers dedicated to the preservation and access of tens of millions of special collections including rare books, manuscripts, archives, photographic materials, works of art on paper, maps, music scores, and objects/artifacts.
- The Library Page position provides the opportunity to work in a large and busy conservation lab staffed by conservators and technicians specializing in bound, flat, and photographic materials.
