About the Role
Lead with compassion and make a real difference in mental health social work by guiding colleagues, managing complex cases, and ensuring person-centred care for adults facing severe and enduring mental health challenges.
Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day running of the mental health team.
- Deputise for the Team Manager and act as Duty Manager on a rota.
- Screen new referrals, manage triage and safeguarding concerns.
- Ensure duty work is handled efficiently and with care.
- Lead by example in multi-agency meetings, offering a clear social work voice in decision-making.
- Work closely with community mental health teams, voluntary groups, and healthcare partners.
- Manage a smaller caseload of complex cases, including urgent assessments, Nearest Relative requests, and court proceedings.
- Support the team with setting up community assessment and case discussions.
- Liaise with partner agencies.
- Play an important mentoring role, supervising permanent AMHPs and supporting newly qualified AMHPs and AMHP Trainees.
- Undertake an Enhanced DBS check for Adults and Children's Barred List.
Requirements
- Registered Social Worker with Social Work England.
- Hold the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification.
- Experience working with adults with complex mental health needs.
- At least two years post AMHP Approval experience.
- Deep understanding of legislation including the Care Act, the Mental Capacity Act, and Mental Health Act.
- Ability to apply knowledge verbally and in writing in high-pressure situations.
- Experience of being a Senior or supervising staff.
- Calm confidence in complex cases.
- Pride in supporting others to do their best work.
- Organised, collaborative, and compassionate.
- Ability to hold risk, make effective decisions in a timely manner, and escalate when appropriate.
- Ability to work constructively with families, colleagues, and external partners.

Salary/Compensations
- New hires will normally start at the minimum of the pay scale.
- A higher starting salary may be negotiated where a candidate demonstrates exceptional skills, knowledge, or experience.
