About the Role

The Principal Solution Architect designs and guides the implementation of complex, enterprise-wide technology solutions supporting Dell Medical School's evolving academic health enterprise. This role provides architectural leadership across clinical, research, operational, administrative, and facility technology environments, including enterprise platforms, medical devices, biomedical equipment, imaging systems, clinical technologies, and other integrated solutions. This role transforms strategic vision into actionable roadmaps and mobilizes cross-functional teams by building strong coalitions across the institution.

Responsibilities

Translate institutional vision into tangible architectural roadmaps and actionable designs.
Develop solution and integration architecture between EHR platforms, ERP, digital technologies, medical devices, imaging systems, facilities, and IT transformation initiatives.
Develop architecture standards and integration patterns for medical devices, biomedical equipment, clinical monitoring systems, and IoT-enabled healthcare technologies.
Design secure, scalable, and interoperable technology solutions that optimize clinical workflows, caregiver experiences, and patient outcomes across inpatient, ambulatory, and research environments.
Establish architecture principles and an escalation model for resolving project-level disagreements.
Support technology planning, design, activation, and operational readiness activities for new healthcare facilities and care environments.
Deliver solution architectures supporting human health research and hospital build initiatives.
Develop and maintain architecture and technology roadmaps aligned with platform milestones.
Map and triage current technology solutions across UT Medical Center, main campus, and research teams.
Develop long-term roadmaps for clinical technology integration, device interoperability, and intelligent hospital operations.
Evaluate new technology requests for alignment with platform strategy and vendor viability.
Identify opportunities to leverage device-generated clinical data to improve care delivery, operational performance, and health system analytics.
Produce executive-level presentation materials communicating technology roadmaps and platform strategy.
Collaborate with facility planners, designers, and construction partners.
Engage with clinical, operational, biomedical services, research, and administrative leaders to define medical technology requirements and integration priorities.
Build institutional coalitions to drive adoption of architectural standards and strategic initiatives.
Facilitate design workshops and solution reviews across departments.
Communicate architectural decisions and roadmaps to technical and non-technical audiences.
Lead change across short- and long-term objectives in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
Define and enforce architectural principles, standards, and templates.
Maintain a current and complete technology solution catalog.
Lead architecture governance reviews and ensure compliance with enterprise standards.
Mentor junior architects and technical staff on best practices and frameworks.
Provide architectural oversight for major IT initiatives and transformation programs.
Oversee integration activities involving patient monitoring systems, imaging platforms, laboratory systems, biomedical equipment, and operational technologies.
Ensure alignment of project execution with enterprise architecture, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and platform strategy.
Coordinate integration of cloud, on-premises, and hybrid systems.
Validate system performance, scalability, and security in collaboration with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams.
Conduct post-implementation reviews to assess solution effectiveness and alignment with architectural goals.
Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning exercises.
Represent the organization at industry conferences, vendor briefings, and technical forums.
Support merger and acquisition due diligence and integration planning for acquired systems and platforms.
Contribute to IT capital planning and long-term investment strategies.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of eight years of experience developing and overseeing solution architecture, enterprise systems design, or IT strategy.
Experience in vendor relationship management.
Experience leading IT transformational initiatives in complex environments.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Minimum of ten years of experience in enterprise architecture or solution design.
Experience supporting the planning, design, activation, or opening of new healthcare facilities, smart hospitals, or digital hospitals, including technology design and activation initiatives.
Experience designing and implementing enterprise architectures that integrate medical devices, biomedical equipment, imaging systems, and clinical technologies within healthcare environments.
Familiarity with healthcare device interoperability standards, including HL7, FHIR, DICOM, and related integration technologies.
Experience with EHR systems such as Epic, ERP platforms, cloud infrastructure such as Microsoft Azure, DICOM, and healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
TOGAF Certification.
AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
SAFe® Architect Certification.
