About the Role

Wipfli's outsourced accounting advisory practice is seeking a manager with construction accounting expertise to provide controller-level advisory and lead key client engagements. In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for construction clients, delivering accurate financial reporting, reviewing work-in-progress schedules, and offering strategic guidance to improve processes, internal controls, and operational efficiency. You’ll partner closely with client accounting teams, owners and CFOs, bringing a perceptive, solutions-focused approach to help strengthen financial performance. Rooted in the Wipfli Way, this opportunity allows you to lead a remote team, mentor staff, and make a meaningful impact within a collaborative, people-first culture.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze benchmarking data and key performance indicators to support client insights.
  • Present completed reporting packages and findings to clients as directed.
  • Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models in alignment with client engagement terms.
  • Provide technical accounting support to clients and their teams on complex issues.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies through client discovery sessions and recommend actionable improvements.
  • Lead and coordinate the efforts of US and offshore engagement team members, ensuring high-quality deliverables, efficient workflow management, and a consistent client experience.
  • Lead and coach staff and senior accountants, providing guidance on accounting and financial reporting matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
  • 4–6 years of experience in public or private accounting.
  • Previous Controller, or equivalent accounting leadership experience with responsibility for financial reporting, operational oversight, and team management.
  • 3+ years managing associates and/or teams.
  • Working knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, retainage, and change orders.
  • Understanding of project based cash flow dynamics, including timing differences between billing, collections, and costs.
  • Comfort in partnering with owners, project managers, and external advisors in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Exposure to multi state operations, sales/use tax, and contractor specific compliance considerations.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Strong project management and relationship-building skills, with a client-first mindset.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others, promote constructive change, and develop team members.
