About the Role

The Bluebird Service provides intensive, complex need, psychologically informed support, advocacy, and advice to women in the community, in partnership with various agencies. The aim is to reduce reoffending, relapse, and recall by engaging women before and after release from prison.

Responsibilities

  • Use an outreach approach to assist service users to attend key appointments.
  • Enable individuals to comply with court orders and prevent further arrests.
  • Assist service users in finding and accessing appropriate community services.
  • Help individuals develop confidence in engaging with mental health and other services.
  • Empower individuals by promoting independence and supporting life skills development.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and the rights of individuals, including those with mental ill-health, personality disorder symptoms, substance misuse issues, and learning difficulties.
  • Contribute to the management of risk and raise safeguarding concerns.
  • Contribute to the development and effectiveness of the criminal justice team and partner agencies.
  • Develop personal abilities through training and CPD opportunities.
  • Maintain sound knowledge of NHS partner services.
  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with external agencies like Community Mental Health Teams and Social Services.
  • Assist in the follow-up care of service users with offending behavior by liaising with appropriate services.
  • Follow up on all referrals in a timely manner and escalate unsatisfactory outcomes.
  • Ensure timely communication of service user information to necessary services, highlighting unmet needs.
  • Contribute to the development and promotion of Together and the service by attending relevant forums.
  • Deliver training, workshops, and presentations internally and externally.
  • Research, prepare, and supply information to monitor service effectiveness.
  • Support the data and administrative team with statistical data analysis.
  • Actively participate in personal development, enhancing skills related to service user vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure personal actions reduce risk and promote health and safety.
  • Work flexibly using creative and innovative approaches to achieve goals.
  • Actively seek and respond to feedback, adapting practice accordingly.
  • Treat all information relating to service users and staff in the strictest confidence.
  • Comply with GDPR and other relevant legislation.
  • Comply with inter-agency protocols on information exchange and confidentiality.
  • Understand and apply principles of safeguarding adults and children.
  • Follow organizational policies for record keeping and use appropriate systems.
  • Maintain an up-to-date record of training.
  • Complete all mandatory training.
  • Use Microsoft tools and the service’s case management system (E3C) effectively.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years’ experience working in a mental health, criminal justice or support setting.
  • Skills in engaging individuals with mental health and complex social care needs.
  • Ability to work in a flexible way to meet service users’ needs.
  • Ability to manage a diverse range of service users including those with protected characteristics, and a variety of social care and mental health needs.
  • Ability to demonstrate clear boundaries in client work.
  • Ability to form and maintain effective inter-agency relationships (e.g., health, probation, social services).
  • Ability to work independently in an autonomous and self-motivated manner.
  • Excellent communication skills with a range of agencies and stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain own safety and use outreach work protocols.
  • Ability to manage complex and difficult situations.
  • Commitment to work in ways which demonstrate and reflect Together’s values.
  • An understanding of the clinical and social care needs of adults, with different gender identities and those from underrepresented groups including minority ethnic groups, who present with various vulnerabilities, including mental health needs.
  • An understanding of risk assessment and management strategies, including safeguarding principles and processes.
  • An understanding of psychiatric symptomatology and treatment interventions.
  • An understanding of mental health service provision within the community.
  • An understanding of the social care needs system (e.g., employment, benefits, housing services).
  • Administrative and goals setting skills.
  • A developed sense of how the Equality Act is applied in mental health work and the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective professional networks.
  • An understanding of mental health legislation, particularly the Mental Health Act 1983 and related contemporary policy issues.
  • An understanding of the criminal justice system and the challenges defendants and practitioners face.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance.
  • HMPPS Vetting.
