About the Role

The Caseworker is primarily responsible for providing case management and counseling services to identified youth and families, including advocacy, referral, linkage, group, individual and family counseling, and crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the task-centered case management model to implement and coordinate services for children and families facing challenges at home and/or school, aiming to prevent out-of-home placement and improve academic performance.
  • Provides intervention and support to families in crisis to maintain family unity.
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely manner according to program standards.
  • Assesses children and families for risk, develops and implements service plans, drafts petitions, and testifies in Family Court.
  • Provides Foster Care Services and locates placements when needed.
  • Advocates for children and families to ensure adequate services by linking and coordinating with county providers and agencies.
  • Processes and reviews all program referrals.
  • Provides culturally competent services, empowering clients by leveraging their cultural strengths and informal support networks.
  • Maintains professional relationships with other service providers and community organizations.
  • Identifies and reports Untoward Incidents as required.
  • Carries out Agency policies and procedures.
  • Completes written reports, statistics, case files, and summaries in a timely manner.
  • Attends supervisory conferences, staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintains required program certifications.
  • Provides door-to-door transportation, ensuring passenger safety.
  • Handles emergency situations requiring flexibility in time and assignment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid New York State driver's license.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.

Skills

  • Strong oral, written, and public speaking communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
  • High level of self-confidence and responsibility.
  • Ability to work with complex systems (e.g., Probation, Family Court, Foster Care).
  • Knowledge and/or experience with both the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.
  • Ability to work independently with flexibility in days and hours.
  • Experience doing home-based work in a rural setting preferred.
