About the Role
The legal team's mission is to manage risk, drive product innovation through legal expertise, and support internal clients with corporate governance, strategic initiatives, and best practices. This role involves legal research, thought leadership, and product innovation, with significant collaboration with the CEO and Head of Product to ensure compliance and explore user-friction reduction methods.
Responsibilities
- Educate team members on legal best practices and maintain a knowledge base.
- Maintain internal documentation, including customer, vendor, and fund agreements.
- Provide customer support and legal guidance to external stakeholders, representing Sydecar's interests.
- Organize and maintain all legal agreements, forms, and corporate records.
- Oversee contract negotiations and agreements with various stakeholders.
- Provide expert legal advice to the executive and other internal teams.
- Monitor legal and regulatory changes and update internal processes.
- Collaborate with external counsel on complex legal matters.
- Manage legal risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Stay current on legal and industry trends in fintech and venture investing.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
- Active membership in a relevant state bar association.
- 4-7 years of legal practice experience.
- Significant experience with Reg D / private fund securities work.
- Strong knowledge of securities laws, data privacy, contracts, and intellectual property.
- Experience in negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks for fintech startups.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Ability to quickly learn new areas of law.
