About the Role

Take your veterinary career to the next level with the Neurology team at SAGE San Francisco. We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled Veterinary Assistant to work alongside our board-certified veterinary specialists providing advanced care for patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned Veterinary Assistant, Senior Veterinary Assistant, Neurology Veterinary Assistant, or experienced Specialty Veterinary Assistant with strong anesthesia and technical skills who wants to continue developing within advanced specialty medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced nursing and patient care for Neurology and Neurosurgery patients.
  • Assist with MRI, CT, diagnostic procedures, surgical cases, and patient recovery.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, medication calculations and administration, digital radiography, and advanced patient monitoring.
  • Assist with sedation and anesthesia, including monitoring patients throughout procedures and recovery.
  • Prepare patients and surgical suites for neurosurgical procedures and provide sterile surgical support.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and quickly recognize and communicate changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, treatment sheets, and anesthesia documentation.
  • Assist veterinarians during appointments and provide compassionate communication and education to pet owners.
  • Collaborate with Neurology, Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, and other specialty departments to provide exceptional patient care.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of hands-on veterinary clinical experience; additional experience strongly preferred for this seasoned-level position.
  • Strong anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring experience required.
  • Advanced technical skills including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, medication calculations, patient monitoring, and diagnostic support.
  • Experience in Neurology, Surgery, Emergency, ICU, Anesthesia, or specialty veterinary medicine strongly preferred.
  • MRI and CT experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of veterinary medical terminology, patient care, and medical documentation.
  • Ability to perform accurate medication, fluid, and CRI calculations.
  • Excellent communication, organization, critical-thinking, and client service skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, organized, and effective in a fast-paced specialty environment.
  • Collaborative mindset with a desire to continue advancing your veterinary technical skills.
  • California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) required or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
