About the Role

As a Staff Product Designer at Flex, you will solve problems for consumers across the country who are underserved by existing financial products. You will own a product area end-to-end, developing a vision, exploring opportunities, and delivering the work. This role is in a highly measured, cross-functional environment with a significant opportunity for designers to bridge customer needs with creative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design for your team, contributing to strategy and roadmap, and owning end-to-end design execution.
  • Develop a vision and point of view for your product area and define the north star for the team's roadmap.
  • Own the design process from beginning to end: discovery, ideation, testing, visual design, and implementation.
  • Design for people under financial pressure by bringing clarity, honesty, and dignity to money-related flows, including error, pending, and recovery states.
  • Proactively identify customer needs and partner with cross-functional leads to influence team priorities.
  • Partner with PM and analytics to structure experiments, inform hypotheses, define success metrics, and gather learnings.
  • Facilitate alignment with cross-functional partners, stakeholders, and other designers to ensure a cohesive customer experience.
  • Understand team's customer and business goals, conduct research to inform the roadmap, and share learnings broadly.
  • Set the standard for high-quality craft through interaction design, prototyping, and visual design choices.
  • Build detailed prototypes, including micro-interactions and moments of delight.
  • Contribute to the Design System, Ultraviolet, including foundational elements and evolving patterns.
  • Model how AI can raise quality and velocity across the team through discovery, exploration, and prototyping.
  • Ship frontend changes with minimal support from engineering (plus).

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience designing and shipping consumer products.
  • Design ownership of a product or family of features in a complex space.
  • Fluency with experimentation, including designing for A/B tests, reading funnel and cohort data, and adapting based on results.
  • Strength in designing for unglamorous states (errors, edge cases, pending, and recovery).
  • Comfort treating technical and regulatory constraints as design material.
  • Track record of designing simple, intuitive products powered by complex systems and edge cases.
  • Comfort documenting and explaining design process and rationale, leveraging best practices, research, and data.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for getting things done to ensure team success.
  • Strong native mobile app design experience (iOS and Android).
  • Figma expert.
  • Experience using AI tools to sketch and prototype.
  • Comfort with ambiguous problems and motivation to be a self-starter.
  • Passion for improving people's financial well-being.
  • A portfolio of work detailing contributions to shipped solutions.
  • Experience in fintech or another regulated environment, designing disclosures or money movement flows alongside legal and compliance partners (nice to have).
  • Experience in an experimentation-heavy product organization where most changes ship behind a flag (nice to have).
  • Familiarity with the frontend to make small changes and have productive discussions with engineers about feasibility (nice to have).
