About the Role

Under general supervision, the General Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled manual tasks and duties in support of general maintenance services, including plumbing, architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical repairs to maintain building components and equipment across the Polytechnic Campuses.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate service providers, acquire quotes, and procure resources for needed contractors.
• Perform plumbing, mechanical, and electrical maintenance and repairs.
• Provide skilled trades for repairs and other duties, including HVAC system maintenance.
• Assist with building automation coordination to adjust system parameters for occupant needs.
• Make recommendations for material and equipment purchases.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Two-year Certificate of Apprenticeship in General Maintenance or a related field.
• Completion of Locksmithing Courses from The Association of Ontario Locksmiths.
• Minimum of five (5) years of practical, related work experience in building and equipment repair/maintenance in industrial, commercial, or institutional environments.
• Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute own work.
• Adherence to policies and procedures, including safety information (WHIMIS), Building Codes, and material/equipment specifications.
• Good judgment, accuracy, attention to detail, and safety consciousness.
• Ability to stoop, bend, work in tight spaces, and lift over 20 kg (44 lbs).
• Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
• Demonstrated commitment to uphold priorities on equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization (EDII).
• Proof of degrees, credentials, or equivalencies from accredited post-secondary institutions may be required.
